The document was read incorrectly — what to do
Reading from a document is convenient, but not infallible. An angled scan, a table split across two pages or a stamp over a number can produce an incorrect result.
Most common causes
- Poor scan quality — skewed, faint or low-resolution.
- Table across two pages — the heading remains on the first, the values on the second.
- Ambiguous units — ppm and mg/kg are the same, but mg/dm² is not.
- Several results in one document — three heats, three sets of values, and assigning them correctly requires the batch number.
Corrections
Any extracted value can be overwritten manually. A corrected value is marked as entered by a human, and reprocessing the document will not change it — this is intentional, so that the correction does not disappear with every refresh.
When the entire document is illegible
Ask the supplier for the source file instead of a scan of a printout. They usually have it; no one has simply asked for it.
